West Los Angeles Chiropractors FAQ

As one of many West Los Angeles chiropractors, Dr. Jeffrey Ptak feels a duty to answer some of the most common questions we hear in our West Los Angeles office. Here are some of the most common questions and answers...

West Los Angeles chiropractors frequently asked questions

What happens at the first visit?

Upon arriving you will be greeted by our warm and welcoming staff. We will ask you to fill out some light paperwork, which also can be downloaded here on our website before your appointment to save time. After completion, you will be given a complete consultation going over the basics of chiropractic followed by a thorough exam.

This exam will be at least 45-60 minutes and entail a complete history, and an orthopedic and neurological exam. If necessary, X-rays will be taken and reviewed at your next visit. Treatment is given at the first visit. See our “What To Expect” page for more information.

Do you accept insurance?

Each insurance plan is set up differently, and benefits can vary widely from plan to plan amongst carriers. Benefits are never guaranteed. Ptak Wellness does their best to work with your insurance company, and the coverage depends on your individual plan. We do the filing for you.

How much does it cost?

Our fees vary based on individualized patient needs. We provide a variety of methods and techniques as well as an extensive rehabilitation system. Ptak Wellness offers per-visit, monthly and annual plans so your care comes first, not budget constraints

What is that “cracking” sound that occurs during and adjustment?

Often patients believe the sound is a result of bones rubbing together, but this is not accurate. The sound, an “audible,” is created by something called “joint cavitation”. This is a fancy name for the release of pressure in the fluids surrounding an immobile joint that often accompanies chronic or recurring back pain. Once motion of the joint is restored, circulation and healing of the spine can occur. As joint pressure is released, it is thought that the gas in the fluid of a joint shifts causing the sound.

How old do you have to be to see a Chiropractor? Am I too old?

Many who consult West Los Angeles chiropractors discover that there is no age requirement! Dr. Ptak uses a variety of techniques that are gentle enough for small infants and fragile seniors, and works on college athletes and severe cases. Chiropractic care can help a wide variety of “childhood” illness such as asthma, ear infections, and bedwetting. Human bodies have an amazing capacity to fight infection that is compromised by nerve disturbances.

Can I still get adjusted if I’ve had surgery on my neck or back?

In most cases, yes, as long as nothing is currently broken or fractured. Dr. Ptak has helped countless post-operative patients who have had herniated and ruptured disc, fusions, discectomies, and even those with hardware in their spines such as screws and rods.

I am currently pregnant. Am I able to see a Chiropractor?

Of course! During pregnancy is one of the most crucial times to get adjusted, because your body is going through so many rapid changes. Adjustments have been proven to increase one’s immune system, which also keeps your baby healthy. The pelvis can also be aligned for your comfort and give the baby the room it needs to grow and develop!
